Mural for Mammoth Biosciences
In the summer of 2021, I was asked to create a mural of a prominent scientist from a historically marginalized background to be featured in Mammoth Bioscience’s new laboratory space. I chose to depict Sameera Moussa, an Egyptian woman who studied at Cairo University and came to UC Berkeley on a Fulbright fellowship to pursue her research in nuclear physics. She was the first female nuclear physicist and the first non-US person to have the privilege of visiting several top secret US atomic research labs. She is known for her advocacy in Atoms for Peace and her efforts to make radiation therapy for cancer safe and affordable.
